Adult Ballet Series:

Specific Mondays & Tuesdays, 9:15am - 10:15am
Nov. 8, 14, 28 & 29.

The overall goal of this series will be to “leave the world behind” and have fun dancing. The class will offer an enjoyable, stress- free opportunity to move to music.  Dancers will focus on their own movement with assistance from the instructor.  This is not a competition class.

Appropriate for ages 16 thru adult.
$15 per class drop-in fee for non-members (pay at door)
$13.50 per class drop-in fee for members of Hancock Arts (pay at door)
$44.00 per 4 sessions for non-members
$39.60 per 4 sessions for members of Hancock Arts

This will be a typical ballet class with a 35-40 minute barre (plie, tendu, degage, ronde de jambe…)  followed by short center combinations.  The instructor will begin with slow warm up combinations at the barre to properly warm up feet, legs and back.  It is recommended that students have at least 2 recent years of ballet or similar dance experience as a child/ teen.

Dress: comfortable clothes student can move in, such as yoga pants and work out top or leotard.  Leotard and tights are also appropriate.  Ballet slippers or jazz shoes recommended.

Students will gain strength, flexibility, and balance while learning new ballet steps and improving ballet technique.  This is also an opportunity to decrease stress through dance and music.

Your instructor, Michele Ball, fell in love with ballet at the age of 7 and has not stopped dancing since.  Originally from Pennsylvania, Ms Ball began her serious ballet training at the school of the Pennsylvania Ballet.  She went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ballet from the University of Utah and apprenticed with Ballet West.  The rigorous curriculum in the ballet program at the University of Utah was anchored in Cecchetti ballet technique, which was designed by Italian born dancer, Enrico Cecchetti.  This method, focused on promoting proper body alignment and development of each component of ballet technique, results in graceful movement that appears effortless.

After earning her BFA, Michele was hired into the American Festival Ballet repertory company.  As a full-time company dancer, she performed throughout the United States with a yearly national tour and extensive performance schedule throughout the Pacific Northwest. Upon leaving the company, Michele returned to the University of Utah where she earned a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition while she resumed work with Ballet West as a dancer in the company’s outreach program, “Ballet for Children.”

Prior to moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in June 2020, Michele lived in Baton Rouge and worked with the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre (BRBT) as a soloist performer, teacher, choreographer, and associate director. Though her primary commitment was to BRBT, she recently performed as a guest artist in the contemporary production of Romeo and Juliet, produced by “Of Moving Colors” dance company.
