Kathe Calhoun was a much revered artist who lived in Bay St. Louis for many years and her many friends wish to honor her with this show and sale. Collectors of her work in this area will loan their pieces for this show, and others will be for sale. The works will hang from March 7 thru March 31 and may be viewed during Hancock Arts regular hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-4:30pm.
Ms. Calhoun was born in Alexandria, LA and was a longtime resident of Bay St Louis, MS. She showed an interest in the arts at the age of 6. Kathe won five awards in the first show she entered which gave her a kick start and a new career was formed. After another 30-40 awards, Kathe realized that her lifelong dream of becoming a professional artist was at hand.
Kathe studied with numerous nationally known artists and at The Academy of Fine Art in New Orleans, LA, and was an instructor in the Bay Arts Program in her hometown of Bay St Louis. She was also an invited guest instructor on the Delta Queen Steamboat and in June of 2005, she was sponsored by the City of Bay St Louis in a one woman show.
Kathe died in September 2021 at the age of 87.
