Introduction to Life Drawing

A Life drawing is a drawing of the human figure from observation of a live model. Life Drawing teaches hand-eye coordination, hones your observational skills and does wonders for relaxation.  In the introductory session, we will focus on capturing  the movement or gesture of the figure, starting with multiple, quick  2 minute poses, gradually moving to longer poses as time permits. The great thing about Life Drawing is that in one session, you can experience a  noticeable marked change in your drawing ability.

$30 fee members; $35 fee non-members

$10 per student model fee

All skill levels are welcome, ages 16 years and up.

Supplies needed are a quantity of inexpensive paper, newsprint is great - and a drawing tool, pencils, vine charcoal, charcoal pencils, conde etc. It helps to have a back board and clips to secure your paper.

Instructor will provide handouts plus many reference books and examples of her personal favorite drawing materials.

We will be working from a clothed model. Each student will assist in paying model fee at $10 per person, payable to instructor at start of class.

We will also offer a drop-in series in the evenings, but you must have taken this class first!

About your instructor:

A native of New Orleans, Sandra Epton studied her craft primarily at the New Orleans Academy of Find Arts - but also under the supervision of professional artists around the USA and internationally. While she is well known for her work with the human figure, her numerous creations also include abstract compositions, portraits and natural subjects.

In her 18 years of Life Drawing, she has studied with Auseklis Ozols, founder of NOAFA, in addition to Kathy Grego and Carol Peebles. She has taken classes in painting the figure in watercolor with Nina Fritz of Pensacola and Naomi Campbell with the Art Students League of New York. She has traveled to Europe with the Arts Students League for drawing instruction and art studies in Florence and spent a two week residency at the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy.

She is recipient of the Nell Tilton Faculty Award for Abstract Painting at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts for 2016.
