BE A SLAMMER!
The Story SLAM is a live storytelling "Open Mic" type event in the vein of poetry slams and was originally organized by The Moth, a non-profit literary society from New York City, since 2001. Storytellers (slammers) have 5 minutes each to tell a story, based on a theme chosen for the event. At The Moth live events, no notes are allowed: stories must be told and not read.
While our event is not affiliated nor endorsed by THE MOTH, we are stealing their idea for our own fun. Who knows? Maybe we will eventually host a live MOTH broadcast!
July 25, 5pm-7pm, no registration needed to attend - register ONLY if you want to do a story.
And we will let you cheat a little - you may use note cards!!
No theme will be chosen for our first event. Perhaps we will have quarterly Story Slams. It's all up to YOU! Not familiar with THE MOTH? Listen to some of their stories told by people like you telling slice of life moments here.
What is a brief event in your life where you have learned a lesson? Been changed forever? A deja vu experience? Mardi Gras memory? Have you seen a ghost? Stories are always true as remembered by the storyteller.
We will limit each SLAM to ten storytellers. And everyone will have a chance at our FABULOUS door prizes to be given away!
Listeners/audience members do not need to register. BYOB and snacks.
