Kicking the Fear of Abstraction”.......Playing with a variety of materials to achieve strong, expressive paintings.

3-Day Workshop

INSTRUCTOR IS BILLIE BOURGEOIS

This class will explore several media including monoprinting, stenciling, collaging, drawing with paint, using a ‘limited palette’, and development of impactful compositions. We begin by making small (11”x15”) works on paper. Larger compositions will develop from the small ones.

This workshop is very playful, explorative and fun.

You will fit right in if you are a beginning artist, as it will allow you to play with art materials without fear of making a mistake.

And if you are a seasoned artist and are trying to take a new direction, the work you do here will open you up to numerous possibilities.

What you will learn in this 3-day workshop .....

Mostly you will learn about yourself as you play with spontaneous mark making with different materials.

You will learn some approaches to color mixing using a limited palette and yet have a source for infinite color choices.

What’s Pizza got to do with it?

You will learn composition in painting by talking about pizza, sports, and arrangement of furniture! (No kidding!)

You will learn that there’s a Spirit in You that wants to get out and shout to the world!

About your instructor: Billie Bourgeois

Bourgeois was born in New Orleans, Louisiana during WWII., the oldest of six children, each of whom are musicians or artists. Growing up with stifling humidity, rich cuisine, and a strong experience of family created the unique environment for nurturing creative fluency. Her spiritual upbringing planted within her a sense of the sacred and mystical and provided fertile ground for an already natural instinct for art.

For Bourgeois there must be a relationship between form and content. She is always concerned with the composition and formal aspects of the work, balanced  with subjects derived from nature and intuition. She is most at home with suggestions of gesture and strong personal mark making. Her goal is response to the subject, not so much representation.
