Japanese Stab Binding Workshop, with Anne Neeb
Since its first appearance in the fourteenth century, Japanese Stab Binding has remained the most typical Japanese style binding even until today. It is a simple but strong binding that allows you to bind multiple one-sided printed sheets without showing any blank pages. This unique thread sewn technique offers a variety of opportunities for creative design, including the use of different papers and colored threads.
A decorative stitch is sewn around the spine of the book or journal, on either hard or soft covers. The class involves making the signatures, and using any type of plain or decorative paper, and creating covers. Students will create a complete book and design the covers using whatever method of embellishment they like.
During this 5-hour workshop, participants will learn basic bookbinding skills and variations of Japanese Stab Binding - 4-Hole, Hemp Leaf, Noble and Tortoise Shell.
